1889 Victorian Restoration

Homer, IL

Historical restoration of original oak woodwork at the turn of the century, “Piety Knob Stock Farm” included stripping, repairing and refinishing the original oak trim, benches, wall paneling, and doors in the first-floor parlor to match the dining room. The main staircase railing was disassembled, stripped, refinished and reassembled. The original columns on the first floor were also removed, partially disassembled, repaired, stripped and refinished. Upon stripping the Ionic capitals, it was discovered that much of the scroll work (volutes) was made of plaster, which then had to be hand faux grained to reproduce the original faux graining. Seven original windows were restored along with extensive plaster repairs and refinishing the original oak flooring.
