We are now offering three different levels of home energy auditing:
THE WALK-THROUGH / AMEREN AUDIT
New Prairie Construction will do a basic audit to identify areas of your home causing health concerns, comfort issues, and/or excessive energy usage. We will:
- measure to obtain square footage and volume of your home
- check the background carbon monoxide (CO) levels throughout the house
- test for natural gas leaks (if applicable)
- check naturally vented combustion appliances for proper exhausting and safe levels of CO production
- perform a blower door test to determine the leakage rate for your home
- inspect to determine insulation levels and identify thermal bypasses
- create a list of actions that could be performed to solve any problems discovered
- explain all rebates that will apply
This audit will provide all the information needed to apply for Ameren rebates.
THE WALK-THROUGH / AMEREN AUDIT WITH INFRARED INSPECTION
Provided that a useful temperature difference exists (inside and outside temperatures must differ by about 20° F), a basic audit can also include an inspection using a infrared camera, which detects differences in temperature. This can show normally hidden details such a missing insulation and air infiltration routes inside wall cavities.
THE HOME MODELING AUDIT
In addition to all the steps taken in the above audits, precise data will be collected to create an accurate computer model of your home. This model will quantify energy usage by different components of the house. By seeing how your home actually uses energy, we can detail future energy savings for each corrective measure taken and provide estimates of lifetime savings, savings to investment ratios, and payback times.
