McKinley Presbyterian Church and Foundation

The old swing doors leading from the McKinley Foundation Great Hall to the new Presby Hall dormitory did not accommodate fire codes or ADA requirements.  The doors were undersized; at least one needed to be three feet wide.  Rather than replace the beautiful historic doors, we modified them.

The windows in the modified doors are still centered, but the door on the left has had one stile removed and added to the door on the right to make it the requisite three feet.  A new header and new bottom were constructed for the bigger door.

One stile is removed and the header cut down.

Dowels were inserted before the doors were reassembled.

Along with removing a stile, the header and bottom of one door had to be narrowed down.

The other door needed a new header and bottom to replace the ones that were now too narrow.

Holes were filled with wood putty and loose paint sanded off.

The old paint and stain were matched.

New casing was also made to match the modified doors.
